Jen kick-started a drive to put a new, modern-looking theme into Drupal core to complement the many UX improvements in Drupal 7, by unleashing Bartik… Jen's front-and-center move to get a design movement going on in Drupal core has really helped mobilize Drupal's front-end developer community in the core queue, and has so far had many wonderful side-effects… Watching Jen act as the lead designer and in a "maintainer" capacity for the theme has been quite amazing, as she's managed to strike a nice balance between protecting the original intent of the design, and incorporating useful feedback from the community.
Jen is one of the best front-end developers I have ever worked with. She has the technical skills to develop clean, forward-thinking, standards-based code, as well as the overall experience and foresight to architect a robust and flexible platform. Her exceptional critical thinking skills allow her to consider more than just the immediate problem at hand, and her broad experience gives her a great deal of knowledge on which to base solutions. I feel lucky to get the opportunity to work next to, and learn from, Jen on a daily basis.
Jen is one of the few people who has an eye for beauty in design and code, and is able to relate to the artists and engineers of the world. In the tech world, she's one of very, very few and anyone who has a chance to experience her passion and skill firsthand is lucky. She's a joy to be around and I look forward to working with her for years to come. I highly recommend working with her in any capacity possible.
If you want to talk about HTML5 and Drupal working together don't talk to me, talk to Jen Simmons because she knows all about this stuff.
Jen's work has been a huge boost to the Drupal community. She's done important evangelism to help improve the quality of Drupal's theming; designed and implemented the new Bartik theme for Drupal 7; and done the difficult work of coordinating the community to get it ready for inclusion in the core Drupal distribution. In addition, I've had the pleasure of working with her during Lullabot training workshop. Her knowledge *and* ability to connect with those who aren't "neck deep in nerd" is great. Big thumbs up for Jen!
Jen is one of those amazing split-brained individuals who can combine deep technical knowledge with aesthetic intuitions and a strong base of relentless common sense. Her high standards and dedication to the Drupal and design communities have been an amazing benefit to our team. Would enthusiastically recommend for any role that requires bridging the gaps between design, code, and communication.
[Bartik gets a] +1 from me. Without a doubt, this should be included in Core. Drupal 7 needed a new good looking face. It has that, in part, with Seven but this would be the icing on a cake. With a cherry.
Jen is a rare breed — a true polymath whose knowledge of film and video production, website design and development I have found to be unmatched over the past 5 years. Along with her technical knowledge, she has the eye and spirit of a true artist. She is a pioneer in the online video world; an inspiration to me during our collaborations. I have Jen to thank for bringing me into the online video arena and for much of my own knowledge, and I count her as a trusted colleague and mentor. Anyone would be crazy not to hire her.
Jen is one of a handful of multitalented people truly capable of bridging the arts and technology worlds. I have worked with Jen on many projects over the past 15 years and she is everything you could possibly want in an creative partner. An uncanny sense for auditory and visual design, efficiency and reliability and ability to work with grace and humor under pressure. Highly recommended.
Jen is a kindred spirit with her tech skills, experience in art, and deep knowledge and experience of the whole new media landscape. I'd feel confident with Jen as a member of any team.
Jen is a wonderful themer and developer in drupal. She takes charge of making sure sites are using drupal best practices and is well involved with the greater drupal.org ecosystem. Seeing her work on Bartik in core drupal 7 is a testament to the amount of passion she has for the work she does.
